    寫這封信是為了...

● I am writing to inquire about [查詢] the position advertised in the newspaper.

  我寫這封信是想要詢問貴公司在報上登的求職廣告。

● I am writing to apologize for [為...道歉] the late delivery of our recent shipment.

  我寫這封信是想為最近延遲交貨致歉。

● I am writing to confirm [確認] my appointment with you made over the phone the other day. 

  我寫這封信是想確認我幾天前通過電話預約的會面。

● I am writing in response to [作為對...的答覆] your recent advertisement for an accountant.

  我寫這封信是想回應你最近刊登聘請會計師的廣告。

3. My thought is that...

    我的想法是……

● My thought is that we would do well to work with Mr. Rogers on the price.

  我的想法是，我們和Rogers先生協議價格會有不錯的結果。

● My thought is that we should meet on Monday instead of Tuesday.

  我想改約星期一見面，而非星期二。

● My thought is that we need a new advertising campaign.

  我覺得我們需要一個新的廣告促銷活動。

4. in order to+ ___動詞(verb)____ 

     為了......

● (In order) to remove any chance of miscommunication, an interpreter should be present at the meeting.

  為排除任何溝通不良的可能，應安排一位口譯人員與會。

5. in order for + ___名詞(noun)___

     為了......

● (In order) for this package to arrive before the deadline, it must be sent airmail.

=This package must be sent airmail in order for it to arrive before the deadline.

  為了讓這份包裹在截止日前抵達，就必須寄空運。

* in order to或in order for句型中的in order可省略，讓句子意思不變，但更為精簡。

6. for the sake of…

    為了......

[“sake”解作「目的；理由；緣故」； “for the sake of”可表原因，亦可表目的。]

● For the sake of our customers' comfort, dressing areas have to be doubled in size.

  為了顧客舒適性的緣故，試衣區空間將加大一倍。

● For the sake of employee morale [員工士氣], the present level of privileges should be continued.

  為了員工的士氣，我們應該保留目前的特權等級。

● For the sake of all shareholders [股東], I hope the stock price doesn't fall further.

  為了所有的股東，我希望股價不要再下跌。

7. for ___名詞(noun)___'s sake 為了……起見

● For safety's sake, please wear hard hats in all construction zones.

  為安全起見，請在所有施工區域佩戴安全帽。

● For safety's sake, there is one fire extinguisher on each floor.

  為了安全著想，每層樓都放置了滅火器。

8. for the purpose of + ___動詞ing(v-ing)/名詞(noun)____

     以....為目的

● The branch will be relocated for the purpose of better serving the needs of our customers.

  分店將遷址以便提供更符合顧客需求的服務。

● If you want a loan for the purpose of home repairs, please see us.

  如果您想為家居修繕申請貸款，請來找我們。

9. It is to our benefit to...

　對我們有利

● It is to our benefit to use only the finest ingredients so (that) the quality of our finished product remains high.

  唯有採用最佳的材料對我們才有利，這樣成品也才能維持高品質。

● It is to our benefit to borrow from the bank that charges the lowest interest.

  跟利率最低的銀行貸款對我們才有利。

● It is to our benefit to follow all the guidelines carefully.

  謹慎地遵守所有指導方針對我們才有利。
